What the AI Act asks of companies that use AI
- AI literacy (Article 4): take measures to support the AI literacy of staff and others who use AI on your behalf. This applies since 2 February 2025. The Digital Omnibus softened the wording on 27 July 2026, but the duty still applies.
- Prohibited practices (Article 5): some uses have been banned since 2 February 2025, such as emotion recognition at work.
- Transparency (Article 50): since 2 August 2026, people must know when they talk to an AI system, and deployers must disclose deep fakes and AI-generated text published on matters of public interest.
- High-risk use: deployer duties for Annex III systems, such as AI in hiring, apply from 2 December 2027.
